Zafu

Inspired by a centuries old Zen tradition, our handmade zafu cushion facilitates the lotus and/or half-lotus sitting positions.

Blue Lotus Yoga zafus are constructed with medium weight cotton canvas and are stitched with nylon thread for strength.

Kapok, a natural fiber filling, resembling milkweed, is harvested in warm climates like Mexico, Malaysia and Samoa. Kapok filled zafus stand about 8 inches high and provide a firm support without being uncomfortably hard.

Black kapok-filled zafus are quite popular with our traditional Zen meditators.

Buckwheat hulls, an alternative natural material used to fill our zafus, are lightweight, very maleable and conform easily to a comfortable sitting position. The hulls themselves allow the cushion to breathe and so can minimize absorption of odors. Zafus filled with buckwheat hulls stand at about 4 inches high.

Buckwheat filled zafus are popular with beginning meditators since the cushion allows for ample support that is easily adjustable during meditation sessions.

Our zafu is available in 12" and 14" diameters. A nylon web strap enables the cushion to be easily grasped for quick transport. There is a 6 inch velcro opening at the side to access the interior, allowing for customized adjustment of the loft of the cushion.

12" kapok zafu is filled with 1.5 pounds of kapok.
14" kapok zafu is filled with 2 pounds of kapok.

12" buckwheat zafu is filled with 3.25 pounds of buckwheat hulls.
14" buckwheat zafu is filled with 4.50 pounds of buckwheat hulls.
